M. SHARAPOVA/P. Kvitova 6‑3, 6‑3

MARIA SHARAPOVA

Q.  You can call it a perfect day.  Your first final here.

MARIA SHARAPOVA:  Yeah.

Q.  The spot of No. 1 in the world.  How do you feel?

MARIA SHARAPOVA:  Yeah.  It’s just amazing to be back in this position of being world No. 1 again. Not yet.  On Monday.  But nice to know it happened again for me.

I was in a position a few years ago where I didn’t quite know if I would ever be here again on this stage playing professionally.  And not just at that, but at a level to get to No. 1 in the world and a first Roland Garros final for me.

So a very special day, no doubt.

PETRA KVITOVA

Q.  Of course when you lose you’re disappointed, but it’s like today, you never entered the match because she was playing maybe too good today?

PETRA KVITOVA:  Well, yeah, for sure.  She play very well.  She improved a lot, not only on the clay.  I mean, I wasn’t play bad, but she was better on the court.  She deserve it, and she’s No. 1 now.

So, yeah, it was good job for her.

SAMANTHA STOSUR

Q.  Back at 3‑All in the third, there’s obviously nothing in it from there.  What do you put those last kind of stages down to?

SAMANTHA STOSUR:  No, it’s kind of hard to say at the moment.  I think I need to kinda probably look back on the match a bit more before I can give it a true reflection of what I think.

But, yeah, it was hard.  I think she kinda played some good points.  Then I got a little bit on the back foot again, which kinda got me in that hole at 3‑Love in the third in the beginning, and I couldn’t afford to do that.  Unfortunately I let it happen again, and, yeah, I paid the ultimate price.

SARA ERRANI

Q.  (In French) This is probably a stupid question, but Schiavone did something extraordinary.  Do you think  it would be possible for you to go all the way to the end of this tournament?  Francesca Schiavone increased her game level all the way through the tournament when she won.  You observed that; does it inspire you?  Do you think you can go all the way and win the tournament?

SARA ERRANI:  (In English)  Yes, of course.  Maybe also that, but I’m just thinking about playing.  Most important thing is just play my game, try to stay in the court better as I can without thinking what I’m doing, because it doesn’t help just with the big motivation and just try to play my game.
